Terms and Conditions
The rules that govern access to and use of Vigilante, including community reporting, safety tools, public sharing, location features, and VigilAI.
Last updated: 28 June 2026
1. Agreement to These Terms
These Terms and Conditions govern your access to and use of the Vigilante mobile application, the Vigilante website, VigilAI, public shared-post pages, emergency and location-sharing tools, and any related products or services provided by CriticalThinkers Technology Limited (collectively, the “Services”).
By creating an account, accessing, installing, or using any part of the Services, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Services.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
You must be legally capable of entering into these Terms. If you are below the age of legal majority where you live, you may use the Services only with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
You are responsible for providing accurate account information, keeping your login credentials confidential, and promptly notifying us if you suspect unauthorised access to your account. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless prohibited by applicable law.
3. Purpose of Vigilante
Vigilante is designed to support safety awareness through community reports, curated information, trusted contacts, emergency workflows, location-related features, route context, and AI-assisted interpretation.
The Services are intended to provide informational and communication support. They are not a replacement for the police, fire service, ambulance service, emergency medical care, professional security services, or any other official emergency-response authority.
4. Emergencies, SOS, and Trusted Contacts
If you believe that you or another person is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate local emergency service first. Do not rely solely on Vigilante, an SOS alert, a push notification, a trusted contact, or a route suggestion during an emergency.
Delivery of alerts may be delayed or prevented by device settings, network availability, battery level, location permissions, third-party infrastructure, or other circumstances beyond our control. You are responsible for confirming that your trusted-contact information is correct and current.
5. Community Reports and User Content
The Services may allow you to create, upload, submit, publish, comment on, save, or share text, images, videos, locations, and other material (“User Content”). You retain ownership of your User Content, subject to the permissions granted in these Terms.
You are responsible for your User Content and must have the rights, permissions, and lawful basis required to submit it. Reports should be made honestly, responsibly, and with reasonable care for the safety, dignity, privacy, and legal rights of other people.
We may review, restrict, remove, preserve, or disclose User Content where reasonably necessary to operate the Services, enforce these Terms, protect users or the public, respond to lawful requests, or comply with applicable law. We do not guarantee that every report is accurate, verified, complete, or current.
6. Permission to Use User Content
When you submit User Content, you grant CriticalThinkers Technology Limited a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for technical display, transmit, distribute, and display that content only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, improve, and promote the Services.
This licence ends when the content is deleted from our active systems, except where continued retention is reasonably required for backups, legal compliance, safety investigations, dispute resolution, fraud prevention, or enforcement of these Terms.
7. Public Post Sharing
A user may generate an opaque public link to share a post with people who do not have the Vigilante app. Anyone who receives or discovers a valid public link may be able to view and forward the associated public content without signing in.
Public shared-post pages are read-only. Liking, commenting, saving, or accessing other account features requires the mobile application and an authenticated account. Do not share a post publicly if it contains information that should remain private or restricted.
8. Prohibited Conduct
You must use the Services lawfully and responsibly. You must not:
- submit a knowingly false, misleading, fabricated, defamatory, or malicious safety report;
- impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity, authority, location, or relationship to an incident;
- harass, threaten, stalk, exploit, discriminate against, or endanger another person;
- publish another person’s private information, precise location, identity documents, or confidential material without a lawful basis;
- upload unlawful, infringing, sexually exploitative, excessively graphic, or malicious content;
- use the Services to facilitate crime, vigilantism, retaliation, mob action, unlawful surveillance, or violence;
- interfere with security controls, probe for vulnerabilities, reverse engineer protected components, scrape restricted data, or gain unauthorised access;
- use bots, scripts, or automated systems in a way that burdens, manipulates, or disrupts the Services; or
- misuse emergency, reporting, moderation, complaint, or support features.
9. Location, Maps, and Route Information
Location, map, and route features may rely on your device, third-party map providers, user reports, and other external data. Such information may be approximate, delayed, incomplete, unavailable, or inaccurate.
When you choose a location-based feature, you authorise the processing of location in accordance with the Privacy Policy and the permission choices displayed on your device. Background location is intended only to maintain live updates during an active, user-initiated SOS session when the app is closed or not in use. You may refuse or later withdraw the relevant device permission, although the affected feature may then be unavailable.
You remain responsible for observing your surroundings, traffic rules, official restrictions, weather conditions, and instructions from public authorities. A suggested route is not a guarantee that a route is lawful, accessible, secure, or free from danger.
10. VigilAI and Automated Outputs
VigilAI and other automated features may summarise, classify, prioritise, or interpret information. Automated outputs may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, or inappropriate conclusions and must not be treated as verified fact or professional advice.
You should exercise independent judgement, review available sources, and seek assistance from qualified professionals or public authorities where appropriate. Critical safety, medical, legal, or emergency decisions should not be based solely on an AI-generated response.
11. Intellectual Property
Except for User Content and third-party material, the Services, including their software, design, branding, graphics, text, databases, features, and underlying technology, are owned by or licensed to CriticalThinkers Technology Limited and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
We grant you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, and non-transferable right to use the Services for their intended purpose. No other rights are granted except where expressly stated in writing.
12. Third-Party Services
The Services may depend on or link to third-party services, including app stores, map providers, authentication providers, hosting platforms, news publishers, messaging tools, and analytics providers. Their own terms and privacy practices may apply.
We do not control and are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, security, content, or practices of third-party services. A link or integration does not necessarily constitute endorsement.
13. Privacy and Data Protection
Our collection and handling of personal data are described in the Vigilante Privacy Policy and Data Protection page. By using the Services, you acknowledge that certain information may be processed as necessary to provide, secure, maintain, and improve the Services.
You are responsible for obtaining any consent or other legal authority needed before submitting another person’s personal data or location through the Services.
14. Suspension, Deactivation, and Termination
You may request recoverable account deactivation through the available account-support process. Once confirmed, deactivation starts a seven-day recovery window. During that period, you may reactivate by attempting to log in and confirming the OTP sent to your account email. If you do not reactivate within seven days, the account is scheduled for permanent deletion.
Permanent Delete Account is a separate action from deactivation. We may also suspend, restrict, or terminate access where we reasonably believe that an account or activity violates these Terms, creates safety or legal risk, threatens the Services, or is connected to fraud, abuse, or unauthorised access. A suspended account cannot be self-reactivated and may require administrator review.
Where appropriate and legally permitted, we may provide notice or an opportunity to appeal. Provisions that by their nature should continue, including intellectual-property, liability, dispute, and enforcement provisions, survive termination.
15. Service Availability and Changes
We may modify, update, suspend, discontinue, or restrict any part of the Services. We do not guarantee continuous, uninterrupted, error-free, or universally available operation.
Maintenance, security events, network failures, third-party outages, legal requirements, or other circumstances may affect availability. Where reasonably practicable, we may communicate material service changes through the app, website, or another appropriate channel.
16. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not warrant that reports, alerts, news, locations, routes, AI outputs, shared posts, or third-party information will always be accurate, complete, timely, secure, or suitable for a particular purpose.
Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty, right, or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable consumer-protection law.
17. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CriticalThinkers Technology Limited and its directors, employees, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential loss arising from or connected with the Services, including loss of data, profits, opportunity, reputation, or business interruption.
We do not exclude or limit liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability that cannot be excluded for fraud, wilful misconduct, or other matters protected by mandatory law.
18. Responsibility for Your Misuse
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to be responsible for losses, claims, or reasonable costs arising from your unlawful misuse of the Services, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of another person’s rights.
This provision does not require a consumer to assume liability beyond what is permitted by applicable law.
19. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer rights that apply in the country where you ordinarily reside.
Before starting formal proceedings, you and CriticalThinkers Technology Limited should attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute through written communication. Subject to mandatory law, courts of competent jurisdiction in Nigeria may hear unresolved disputes.
20. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes in the Services, law, safety practices, or business operations. The revised version will be published on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
Where a change materially affects your rights or obligations, we may provide additional notice where reasonably practicable. Continued use after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.
21. General Provisions
If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that provision.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any feature-specific terms presented to you, constitute the agreement between you and CriticalThinkers Technology Limited regarding the Services.
